The CRM Group, as a centre of excellence and research and development open to the world, we work on innovative projects with various sectors internationally.

We rely on our state-of-the-art equipment and the diversity of our 270 talents from more than 15 different nationalities to deliver products, processes and solutions to our customers and partners.

The R&D activities of the CRM Group are related with the steel industry, metallurgy, associated coatings and materials. The CRM main objective is to make the link between ideas and scientific developments with  the market needs and industrialization of new products. To meet this goal, our centre has a unique configuration of equipment combining laboratory scale and industrial scale pilot lines.  Areas of expertise of the group include printed electronics on metal, coating for smart surface and functionalities on surface. CRM group is one of the unique research centre developing smart applications for the IoT (Internet of Things) on metal and various support (stretchable, flexible..).

In the framework of a Wallonia project, include UCL university and Taipro company, the CRM objective is to produce a force sensor membrane by electronic printed technology. Piezoresistive and capacitive sensors will be considered, as well as thermal spray and screen-printing deposition techniques. Experimental setup optimization and careful comparative study of deposition parameters are also studied.

Objectives of the internship

The objective of the work is to manufacture and characterise the printed sensor properties and performances. The intern will take in charge the following tasks:

  • Bibliographical study of printed force sensors
  • Acquire  and improve the concept already developed at CRM
  • Manufacture the printed sensors by spray (APS) and serigraphy
  • Setting-up the prototypes (assembly of parts, tuning up, installation of instruments and sensors)
  • Calibration trials
  • Characterise the printed sensor properties and performances.

Trainees will be included in a dynamic Wallonia partnership (PhD  student, post doc and SME)
